Tradition!

So our little family has a tradition that we started a few years ago, and have made sure to do ever since. We simply go up to Thanksgiving point and drive through thier light display. This year however we mixed it up a bit, and decided to try out the horse drawn wagon rides that they offer. So we went up and while trying to find our way to the wagon rides, we found out that they also had some reindeer there. So we pulled the boys out of the car and went and met "Dasher" and "Prancer"!! (I think they said that was the two reindeer that were there.)
They also had a bunch of Christmas trees set up, and since we (since we own a very convenient fake tree) don't go to tree lots, we had to look and smell the beautiful trees. (We might just have to go for a real one next year.)Then we headed over to the farm country and got tickets to go on the wagon ride. We made sure to take blankets (we should have taken more) and wrapped the boys up and had a great time riding through the open air to see all the lights. The lady who was driving the wagon told us the horses names were "Holly" and "Bell" (rather appropriate don't you think) and said that she would happily answer any questions we might have during the ride. Riley was bursting to ask a question, so I supplied him with a quick "How old are they?" and he quickly asked the woman, smiling that he had been able to ask a question. Then he sat and thought and thought and thought until he had come up with another one. "How many times do these two horses go around the lights in one night?" He was even happier since he came up with this one himself. Well, Wes certainly couldn't be out done so as loud as he could he asked her his question. I laughed as I heard it, but the woman didn't quite understand, so he said it again. "What do the horses want to be for halloween?" I was rather impressed by the woman, she smiled quickly at him, and realizing that he was serious (while I was laughing so hard I was crying, along with a few other people in the wagon) politely said that "They haven't decided yet. But they were ghosts for this past Halloween." Wes was thrilled.

Wes didn't want to leave after it was over, so I persuaded him to get off by saying that we were going to go somewhere to get some hot chocolate. I told him that "our noses are way too cold and we need the hot chocolate to help warm them up". So we left and stopped at a gas station to get hot chocolate. Once we got home, he still hadn't drank any of his. So I gave it to him, and a few minutes later he came to me and told me that it hurt his nose. I simply said that he should wait for it to cool down, and then added a little milk so that it wouldn't be quite so hot. I gave it back to him and told him that he could drink it now. "But Mom," he said confused and a little angry at the suggestion "It's for my nose." That's when I realized why it "hurt his nose", and after having another laughing fit, explained to him that it was in fact suppose to go into his mouth, and therefore warm up his body, including his nose. I suppose I really need to watch just what I say, and how I say it.
I think we will make horse drawn wagon rides and hot chocolate as part of our tradition from now on!
