Little snow Family!

"As requested by Angie" - On Saturday we spent a couple of hours outside, and made a beautiful little snow family! We had lots of fun, and we tried our best to make them resemble us at least a little. (That's why mine has such big hips.) Riley kept saying that his didn't look anything like him, and for a while was rather upset by it, until I explained that it was just snow, and it was difficult to get snow to really resemble him that closely. After that he was satisfied with adding his hat and cape. Anyway we all really did enjoy it, at least most of the time! Right there at the end, we were all a little grumpy and cold, but overall we had a fun time!!

Riley teaches his poor mother . . .

I have tried since Riley was very little to teach him that he is to be kind to everyone. And he usually is, with a few exceptions here and there. So I found it rather unusual that the last couple of weeks he has been having one of the kids at school call him names. At first it bothered him, and I talked to him and just explained that as long as he (Riley) isn’t doing anything to the other boy to cause this, then it’s okay, and that he has so many other people that love him and want to be his friend, that it really didn’t matter what this little boy thought. I just got a nod and a “dah, of course I wasn’t mean, mom,” look from him, but wondered if Riley had said something or possibly shot back with names of his own at the other kid. It didn’t really bother me at first, because he said he still had fun and played with other kids and so on and so forth. But yesterday it happened again. And this time, it was names and on top of that making fun of him. This time he wasn’t really bothered by it. But it really bothered me, why would someone make fun of someone so wonderful. And when I found out that he tried to walk away from the boys (two of them now) they would run after him and grab his arm and turn him around and not let him get away. And when he finally did, he went and played all by himself. It killed me, what would cause such meanness at such a young age. I didn’t sleep much last night, but finally realized that I was bothered by it much more then Riley was. He really took to heart that he is loved by so many others, and he knows he’s a good kid, that who cares what they think. Well, I dropped him off at school this morning, and I always tell him as he gets out of the car to remember to be nice and do what is right. But ‘stupid’ mom that I am I added a last “And if that boy is mean to you again, just tell him he’s a dork.” Riley turned to me so quickly with the strangest look on his face and said more seriously than I’ve ever heard him say anything before. “Mom, I’m NOT going to do THAT.” Boy was I humbled. My six year old, knows better than his mother, how we are suppose to treat even an enemy. I’m not particularly proud of my parenting skills this morning, but I’m more proud of my son then I have even been before.

I Blame Angie and Phil . . .

It all started with a very innocent and thoughtful (I think) Christmas Present. However I’ve decided that people need to really really think and consider just how a present might affect an entire household, before they are allowed to give it. Because now it’s all over the place, in the living room, in the bedrooms, on the T.V. , on MP3 players, in the car . . . it’s even followed me to work. Veggie Tales, and especially “Silly Songs with Larry” are everywhere.
The first one was “If it doesn’t have a tail it’s not a monkey!” Hilarious – but was repeated every time we saw something with a tail. “A Kite has a tail” – “then it’s a monkey.” Now it’s “The Cheeseburger song.” My least favorite, but Phil and Riley’s favorite. “The Dance of the Cucumber” which Riley likes to perform at least once a night in the living room. And then there is mine and Wesley’s favorite “The song of the Cebu.” (Wes calls it the MOO-MOO song.) Then there is “Endanger Love” which of course is all about Bill and Barbara Manitee, speaking French and going to the Ball. And we can’t forget “I love my Lips” and “The Pirates who don’t do anything.” (Everyone must listen to these at least once.) However that is when the trouble starts. Just listening to them once is not enough, they stick in your head, and are so funny that you then have to listen to them again and again and again and again. At first I thought that I definitely needed to call and thank Angie and Phil for introducing us to such fun. Until I found myself at work, humming “Endangered Love,” I whistle “The Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps” while I make dinner, and I sing to “The Song of the Cebu” at the top of my lungs in the car, even when I’m all alone. That is why I decided that I needed to BLAME then instead.
I do believe that July is Sophie’s birthday, right?? I have the perfect gift for her!!! Just Kidding – Thanks guys we love it!!

Christmas Photos!

I don't have the internet at my house, so I have to post these blogs from work! That's why I haven't posted anything for awhile! I got to stay away from work for about a week and a half, and so I didn't get to post anything for that time! Anyway, Christmas was great, even though Wesley had double ear infections, a horrible yeast infection, sliced open his lip, got a little cough and runny nose, and ended up having to get two shots (one in each leg) to finally get rid of the ear infections. But the rest of us seemed to come out of it all okay - and as you can see by the pictures, Wes was pretty happy and enjoyable most of the time. Anyway, here are just a few of my favorite pictures that I took over the Christmas holiday. (I'll post again, hopefully sometime this week.)

Good thing he's a big guy, right?
Isn't she cute!

I don't like this one so much, since it makes me realize just how big he is getting.
