His teacher at school said at his last Parent Teacher Conference that he had “Come out of his shell.” I laughed thinking that he is finally showing his teacher and his friends the side of him that we have always seen.
Sunday night someone (I can’t remember exactly if it was Riley or Wes) asked if the moon really was made out of cheese. I then went on to explain that it was made up of rocks and such and there was a little disappointment all around. So we started talking about who would want to go to the Moon. Wes wasn’t sure. Phil said “no way” and Riley was adamant that he never wanted to go to space. I on the other hand, said that if I had the chance I wouldn’t pass it up, and would LOVE to go into space. Riley in a rather worried and serious tone then asked. “But Mom, what if you lost the keys to your spaceship?” (Apparently he has no faith in me keeping track of my keys, even in space.)
Everyone in our little family loves the Food Network, even Wes will watch Iron Chef, as long as Bobby Flay is competing. (I don’t know if anyone watches this show, but at the beginning they make a huge production out of the “secret ingredient” that has to be the main theme in everyone of their 5 dishes and they always make a dramatic pause before unveiling it. It’s usually some bizarre vegetable, fish, seafood, or spice.) So anyway, we were watching and they had just revealed that the secret ingredient was cabbage. And we started to come up with ideas of our own as to what would make a great secret ingredient. Phil and I both listed off a couple of items, like bacon or salmon, when Riley shouts. “I’ve got it.” We all turned to look at him “Wait for it, Wait for it, Wait for it.” Large Pause “RANCH DRESSING.” Phil and I died laughing, at which point he turned and gave us both nasty looks and stated “I didn’t think it was that funny.” We laughed even harder.
Yesterday as we were on our way to swimming lessons, I told the boys that Angie had found out if she was having a boy or a girl. The back was completely silent. So I went on to say that she would be having another little girl. Still complete silence in the back. I asked if they heard me and said again that Angie would be having another girl, and Sophie would have a sister. Finally Riley piped up, “Wait, Angie’s Pregnant??” “Yes Riley didn’t you notice at Phil’s party, that her tummy is getting a little bigger.” “Yeah, but that could be anything.” (Sorry Angie – but it was so funny!!)
We were at Olive Garden a couple of weeks ago and had just finished dinner. They brought us the check and with it those little Andes mints that they give you so you don’t kill people with garlic breath as you leave. Anyway, those are Riley’s favorite treats, he can down a ton of them and buys them whenever he gets a chance. He absolutely loves them. I happened to say something about that while the waitress was there and a few minutes later she brought me a handful of them. Riley had downed a couple when I gave him one more, and told him that it was his last one. He opened it slowly, ate only half of it, and placed the other half back in the wrapper, stating “I’ll save that half for later.” Not even two second go by and he practically screams “It’s later.” Grabs the other half and shoves it in his mouth smiling sweetly at all of us.
